Back in January 2020 Wellspring decided, as a church, to sponsor six children through Compassion UK, a Christian organisation that provides education and support for vulnerable children in families throughout the world. We decided to choose a boy and a girl from the three continents of Asia, Africa and the Americas.
We agreed to support
- Elisha a girl aged 6 from Tanzania
- Alexi a boy aged 6 from Rwanda
- Orun a boy aged 9 from Bangladesh
- Danuja a girl aged 5 from Sri Lanka
- Marco a boy aged 8 from Peru
- Paloma a girl aged 8 from Brazil.
We get regular updates and letters from these children, which we share with the congregation. It is sometimes quite overwhelming to see the change in the children over such a short time.
A case in point is little Paloma, shown in the picture above as she was when we first started to support her.
Our most recent picture of Paloma is on the left. What a transformation!
She also sends us wonderful drawings, such as the one on the right.
We felt so blessed by our association with Compassion UK that recently the church decided to sponsor a seventh child. As we have two toddlers in our congregation we thought it would be nice to sponsor a really young child so we have taken on Ellon, a baby girl aged 2 from Uganda.
Hopefully we can watch our six youngsters plus our toddler, Ellon, grow up blessed by the love and support of our church. Soon we are planning an own-arranged service in which the congregation can learn more about our sponsored children and write greetings to them all as part of the worship.
We can thoroughly endorse any church supporting Compassion UK. It has brought many blessings to Wellspring for certain as well as joy to our sponsored children across the world.
